The Hellgate: London BETA F.A.Q.

Questions, questions, and more questions! Yes, we know you all have them, and we're here to provide you with the answers you need to get into the Beta for you tasted of Hellgate: London. Please, check this page often as we're going to be constantly updating it with questions and answers as they come. Thanks a bazillion for your patience and support, and see you all online!

Q: Can I run Hellgate: London?
A: There's an easy way to find out...

Q: I'm getting an error when I try to redeem my pre-order code. What's wrong?

A: We've been having a few issues with account creation, but this is resolved now. Please head to this page to redeem your code and create your account.

Q: Great, I was able to create my account. That means I'm in the Beta now, right?

A: Yes and no. Yes, because you've created your Beta account (which also carries over into the retail, live game by the way), but there might be a small delay before you get to actually start playing the game. We're sending out game invites in waves so we can check on server issues and such as more and more people join the game. Don't worry though, you'll absolutely, definitely, positively get in the Beta soon. We promise! Just wait for the email with the invitation.

Q: I signed up for the Beta using the big link on the front page but haven't received my invite yet. What gives?

A: We have literally thousands of people waiting to get in. As mentioned, we have to let in people in waves. This is, after all, a Beta test. To make sure our online service is in top shape come Halloween, we need to test things gradually. We know you guys want to play right now, and we want you all to be in the game, but this is something we have to do to make sure the game is the best it can be come launch day.

Q: Wait, what's all this pre-order talk about? I don't know anything about it? Tell me more!

A: If you pre-order Hellgate: London through one of our partner retailers, you'll receive a Beta invite, an exclusive Dye Kit, and eligibility for the Founders Offer. More information about these can be found on the Beta page. You can also see a higher-res image of the Dye Kits on Flickr page.

Q: I already pre-ordered Hellgate: London before I was aware of the aforementioned promotion. What can I do to get it?

A: Unfortunately, this is out of our control. We suggest talking to the retailer you purchased your pre-order from about possible solutions. However, if you ordered through www.EA.com, we're working on getting all of you a special Dye Kit, as well as the other pre-order benefits. [Update: Orders placed on the EA site will receive a Wasp Dye Kit, as well as the Beta invite and Founders Offer.]

Q: I’m interested in the US pre-order package that contains the exclusive Dye Kit, Founders Offer, and Beta invite. The problem is I don’t live in the US. Why can’t I find this same offer in my country?

A: Hellgate: London pre-order packages are handled by our publishing partners in their respective territories. Any promotion that does or does not appear in your country is out of our control. [Update: We've been informed that there will be an identical package available in Europe. Please expect an official announcement with more details (participating retailers, etc.) very soon.]

Q: My pre-order code hasn't arrived and I won't get nearly as much time to play the Beta as other people. Help!

A: The Beta will not end on October 7th as some people think. We're going to be pushing it out as close to launch as possible so everyone will have time to get in on the action. Yeah!

Q: I pre-ordered Hellgate: London online from Best Buy (or) Wal-mart online but haven't received my code yet. When will I receive it?

A: We've been informed that Best Buy and Wal-Mart are not sending codes out to pre-orders taken via the web. We're doing everything possible to fix this and will post an update as soon as we can. [UPDATE: We've talked to the retailers and we are working on a fix right now. We'll make sure everyone gets their pre-order codes, so turn that frown upside down!]

Q: I’m playing the Beta right now and some people seem to have access to more character slots and Hardcore mode, yet I don’t. Why not?

A: Remember, this is a Beta test. Because we need to test every feature we’ll have available when the game ships, sometimes we flag players as being subscribers. Subscribers get access to additional character slots, Hardcore mode, and a host of other features.

In most cases, if you’ve just recently joined the Beta, you’re not flagged as a subscriber because you haven’t been playing long enough. Those players who’ve been in since the Alpha have naturally experienced the most test phases and flags, so it’s not because we don’t love you.

In any case, we have a character wipe coming soon, so once again, no one will be flagged as a subscriber – until we need to test it more. ^_^

Q: Wait, what the heck’s Hardcore mode?

A: Hardcore mode is very similar to what it was in Diablo II – a mode you can play where, if your character dies, it’s gone forever. You can’t respawn into the game, and you’ll lose everything. You’ll likely be able to mingle around the stations, but that’s about it.

This mode is for those of you who value bragging rights. Think about it: if you can get through the game without dying, EVER, you’re a certified badass.
